Nuka (Nuk-Ka) was found stranded in August 1982 in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, and it is believed that her mother had abandoned her. She was then brought to the New York Aquarium and new walruses joined her in 1994. Also rescued, Ayveq, Uupa and Kulusiq, were found in St. Lawerence Island, Alaska.
The four walruses continued to live in Sea Cliffs until 1998, when improvements of the pool was deemed necessary. They were relocated at the Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration in Connecticut for the winter season.
Nuka is currently sharing her exhibit with Kulusiq.
Identification: Nuka is slightly larger than Kulusiq.

Kulusiq (Ku-lu-sock), or simply Kulu, was found stranded in St. Lawerence Island, Alaska in 1994.

Kulusiq gave birth to Akituusaq on June 12, 2007. The birth marked the first walrus born in the Aquarium's 113-year history. Unfortunally on September 1, 2009, Tuusaq passed away from contracting pneumonia. The aquarium is left with two female walruses: Nuka, and Kulusiq.
Identification: Kulusiq is slightly smaller than Nuka.
